Keeping up with High Tech...
We have started a
blog and also have it available
as an XML RSS feed
You can just read our
blog or, if you have a feed reader add our XML RSS content feed to your
reader to get our news on your desktop. No more
missing emails. This goes right to your
desktop feed reader for you to read whenever
you'd like.
RSS feeds may someday replace emailed
newsletters. For now, we see this as additional means
of communicating with our subscribers and customers.

What's New at Giftsprings... |
Hello again! I know, it's been a while since our last issue. We've
had mailing software changes, webstore additions, and hurricanes
to contend with. At least we haven't been bored, right? We are now transitioning
over to this new mailing list software for sending out the Giftsprings
newsletters. This is actually the first issue going out to you using
the new mailing system. So we hope and expect this to reach
you in good shape, but if this looks strange or you have any problems
with it whatsoever, please let us know so we can tweak things and make sure the next issue comes through to
you much better!
As far as our hurricane update goes, the three storms kept us pretty busy. I'm pleased to
report we had only some inconveniences such as electrical, phone and
internet outages for 1-2 days during two of the hurricanes. Then we
were fairly quickly restored and boy, was I happy about that!
I surely regained a higher level of enthusiasm for electricity.
In fact, the other day my husband showed me a high
electric bill but I didn't really feel upset. All I could think was
yes, that is high, but I *love* having electricity, and suddenly
the weight of the bill lifted away. Now, others have had it much
worse in some areas as a result of these hurricanes. So we made a donation
to the America Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and we encourage
you to consider doing so as well. If you feel you can help out with

Now, I am excited to highlight several new products for
you. We are starting to work with an artisan that will
create a very cool personalized cartoon figure of you or your gift recipient! Just select the style
figure you want, send us the photo and voila, you'll soon be
getting a one-of-a-kind figure that will resemble the head
shot photo! We have also added personalized windchimes (and you

By the way, depending on how you joined our list, we may be in contact with you again
very soon. We will need you to re-subscribe under our new mailing list
system which includes an email confirmation procedure to make sure
you really want to keep getting this ezine and you really do own
the email address you want to receive it at. If you use aol or some
other email addresses, too, you may not receive our emails. You might
want to use a different email address that allows you to receive emails
without filtering them away from you even though you've requested them.
It might help to add our domain name and email address to your address
book too. If you joined our list within the last several months, you
won't be asked to join the list again because you're already in the
new mailing system the right way.
As we head into the last quarter of the year, let me remind you to
allow extra lead time for any online holiday shopping you might
be doing. You can avoid products selling out and have plenty of time
to take advantage of less costly ground shipping options when
you plan and shop earlier. Also, remember that some personalized
gifts can take longer to prepare.

"Keep Your Home Happier" |

It turns out your mother was right after all -- Happiness
really does begin at home, with the things and the people
you are surrounded by. Your vision is one of the first
messengers to send signals to your brain as to how it feels.
Therefore, it follows that keeping your home happier will
have a direct impact on how you feel.
What do you see in your home --Clutter? Chaos? Angry faces?
What do you hear -- Loud voices; bad music?
What do you feel when you look around your home? Stress?
Unhappiness? Frustration? UGGGGG!
What if instead you could feel and "see" opportunity and
optimism? Energy and enthusiasm? Ok, maybe that's going a
little too far, after all it IS just the living room.
Try these ways to let your environment help make you happier.
- Subtract the Ugg factor
Chances are if you're like most
people these days, you are fighting tooth and nail just
trying to keep up with your life. Getting organized will
help you win the fight. Look for the ugg factors in each of
your spaces (desk, office, living room, bedroom, garage).
Start with the White Elephant, the first thing that makes
you go UGG when you walk into the space. Fix it, clean it,
organize it, get rid of it. Whatever.

Up the color factor
Color is the accessory to our lives.
Without it, while functional, it can be pretty plain. And
scientists have long knows the effects that color can have
on moods. Red and Yellows and Oranges inspire and stimulate.
Blues and Greens are calming and restorative. Colors can
also elicit memories, like "hospital green", or "college
purple". In my family, we had a color called "Dad's blue
shirt". Look at the colors around you. If paint is not an
option check your accessories. Glue some inexpensive
colorful beads or buttons to terra cotta pots to use as
bright catch-alls for the bathroom, the desk, the kitchen
table. Buy colorful frames for pictures. Wear a colorful top.
When I wear red, I smile all day.

Don't forget the smile factor
The smile factor is truly
personal. I have a screensaver of my 2 puppies in a funny
position. I grin every time I see it, no matter how stressed,
no matter how irritated I am at my internet cable provider.
Take inventory of your space, one piece at a time. Ask
yourself, is it useful? Is it beautiful to me? Does it make
me smile? Or does it make me remember how much my
mother-in-law criticizes me?

Function is always a factor!
Check the function of your
space. Take a look around -- is your home functioning in a
way that supports what you want and how you want to feel?
If the room is for working and reading, low lights will make
you uncomfortable and unhappy. Functionality is increased
when a multi-purpose -- or multi person -- room is divided
into zones so that more than one purpose or person can use
it effectively. Use your creativity. Even the ubiquitous
storage must-haves can be more than merely functional. With
a little planning and thought, they can add visual interest
and style to a room.
The steps to happiness begin with what you are surrounded by
most of the time. Use positive psychology, positive
messages, and positive images to feed your brain positive
feelings. If you put these ideas to work, your home really
can help keep you happy.
